When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.
My Thoughts: (spoiler-free)
This book was such a wonderful read. At the outset, you can get bits and pieces from the Beauty and the Beast, but as the story moves on, it transforms into a new and unforeseen route.
If you didn’t know already, this book’s characters are faeries and humans. I personally dislike faeries for they are the most vicious, brutal and heartless creatures, but Maas had made it possible for me to like them.
In this new world that Maas has built, the Fae used to enslave the humans but not after a peace treaty has been made. This treaty separated the Fae and the mortal lands for 500 years but then, a rebellious group of fae wanted to enslave the humans again and rule over everyone.
As the story goes further, Feyre begins to find out that not all faeries are as cruel and ruthless as she thought. Knowing the primary romance, Feyre finds herself drawn to one of the faeries.
Just when you thought you know how the story will play out, you are absolutely wrong. This book is full of twists and turns, and it’s just very unpredictable, making it so much fun to read.
I love the characters that Maas set out on this book. We’ve got a badass heroine, and not to mention, swoon-worthy dudes. Also, this book has this whole ship switch thing and it would really just blow your mind.
A Court of Thorns and Roses is such an epic fantasy. It’s sexy, intriguing, complicated and it would leave you needing for more.
I rated this book 5/5 stars.
Here’s my favorite quotes from the book:
“I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”
“I love you, Thorns and all.”
“Your senses are your greatest enemies; they will be waiting to betray you.”
“Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.”
